The presentation will be a review of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a bacteria that naturally exists in the environment where oysters grow. We’ll discuss risk factors and mitigation strategies for Alaskan oyster growers to be aware of and provide an open forum for questions.

Join us via ZOOM for a demonstration of Sensoreal Rapid biotoxin testing equipment with Margo Reveil of Jakolof Bay Oyster Company.

These field-deployable kits test for PSP, ASP, and DSP toxins on-site with results in under one hour — giving farmers better information to make harvest timing decisions and manage risk. These are not regulatory testing tools; state DEC determinations still govern commercial harvest closures. By helping growers self-select when to submit official samples, the technology has the potential to reduce unnecessary regulatory testing costs for both growers and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.
